Sitting On A Fortune - Your Jewelry Box
Old, intricate and ornate costume jewelry made anywhere from the 1920's to the 1970's and later are seeing a new appreciation from collectors. The current generations find these pieces highly collectible. Some pieces even command more money than real gold and gemstone pieces.
Bracelets, rings, necklaces and pins that are made of Bakelite can be sold for up to $2000 per piece. As well, pieces by well known designers like Eisenberg, Chanel and Josef can bring thousands.
You will want to look for signatures on the backs of brooches/pins, the ends of necklaces and on the insides of bracelets. You can also find the manufacturer's name or mark on the backs of clip earrings. Bakelite pieces are not signed, but the material is often carved and typically heavier than regular plastic.
To sell them, you can consign your pieces with a reputable dealer or possibly lease a space in a local antique market. You can also sell these pieces for a good price on eBay.
